Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, is France's most visited monument. Located in the historic center of Paris at the tip of Île de la Cité, construction began in the Middle Ages. Work started in the 13th century and concluded in the 15th century. Severely damaged during the French Revolution, the cathedral underwent restoration in the 19th century under architect Viollet-le-Duc. Numerous visitors admire the stained glass windows and rose windows, towers, spire and gargoyles. They can also discover the Notre-Dame Treasury and attempt the tower climb for panoramic views of Paris. In 2013, Notre-Dame celebrates its 850th anniversary. For this jubilee, numerous events are organized and the cathedral renews its bell collection with eight new bells and a new bourdon.
