Venice and Chioggia

Aerial footage of Italy

Italy is one of Europe's most visually diverse countries for aerial cinematography : from the snow-capped peaks of the Alps and the Dolomites to the Tyrrhenian coastline, from the Tuscan vineyards to the active volcanoes of the south, each region offers an immediately recognisable visual identity.

Venice and ChioggiaVenice is perhaps the city best suited to aerial filming : set on its lagoon like no other, its silhouette of palaces and bell towers rising from the water is one of the most iconic images in Europe. A few kilometres to the south, Chioggia, the fishermen's "little Venice", offers a more intimate and less tourist-trodden version of the same lagoon archipelago.

Tuscany — Rolling hills dotted with cypress trees, hilltop medieval villages, vineyard-lined roads and olive groves : Tuscany from the air is the very image of the ideal Italian countryside, filmed in golden light for productions seeking the quintessence of the Mediterranean landscape.

Siena — At the heart of Tuscany, Siena and its famous Piazza del Campo, one of the finest medieval squares in Europe, can be seen from the air in all its urban coherence — a remarkably well-preserved historic centre, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Dolomites — A limestone massif of spectacular vertical forms, the Dolomites offer from the air landscapes of striking mineral beauty : rock towers, needles, alpine meadows and mountain refuges clinging to the cliff faces, bathed in a rosy light at dawn and dusk that belongs to these mountains alone.

The Aosta Valley — Nestled between the highest peaks of the Alps, the Aosta Valley unfolds its medieval castles, stone villages and glaciers in an exceptional mountain setting, filmed by helicopter for sequences of rare cinematic quality.

Turin — Former capital of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia and birthplace of the Italian automotive industry, Turin reveals from the air its Baroque architecture and wide avenues, framed to the west by the panorama of the Alps.

Liguria — vines and harvest — Clinging to clifftops above the sea, the vineyards of Liguria rank among the most spectacular in Italy. Our harvest footage captures the reality of heroic viticulture, practised on vertiginous terraces inaccessible to any mechanisation.

La Spezia — A military and industrial port at the head of the Gulf of Genoa, La Spezia offers from the air a striking contrast between its port infrastructure and the wild beauty of its Ligurian hinterland, on the doorstep of the Cinque Terre.

Lake Como — A deep arm of water set between the Alpine foothills, Lake Como is one of the most photographed pre-Alpine lakes in the world, with its Belle Époque villas and their gardens suspended above deep blue waters.

Stromboli — In the Aeolian Islands archipelago, Stromboli is one of Europe's most active volcanoes, in near-permanent eruption for centuries. Filmed from a helicopter on a night overflight, the active crater delivers images of rare intensity, impossible to achieve from the ground under the same safety conditions.

This footage was shot by helicopter using a gyro-stabilised Cineflex / Papa Sierra camera, in HD and 4K, delivering cinema-grade quality for the most demanding productions.
