Spain Aerial Footage

From the creative energy of Barcelona to the whitewashed lanes of Andalusia, Spain offers from the air a kaleidoscope of landscapes, architecture and light that makes it one of the most filmed destinations in Europe.

Catalonia — Our collection was particularly enriched in Catalonia, where we accompanied a promotional tourism film for the region directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. From the Pyrenees to the beaches of the Costa Brava, through the vineyards of the Penedès and the medieval villages of the hinterland, Catalonia reveals a diversity of landscapes rare for such a compact territory.

The castells of Vilafranca — Still in Catalonia, we also filmed on the ground, using an aerial crane, one of the most breathtaking spectacles of Catalan culture : the castells, human towers that can reach ten levels, built with bare hands by hundreds of participants. Listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, this tradition born in the 18th century finds in Vilafranca del Penedès one of its most decorated colles, capable of raising vertiginous structures in a tense silence, broken by the explosion of joy from the crowd when the summit is reached.

Barcelona — The Catalan capital with its unique architecture, Barcelona blends from the air the futuristic skyline of the Sagrada Família with the tight lanes of the Barri Gòtic, down to the seafront and its urban beaches along the Mediterranean.

Córdoba — A jewel of Andalusia, Córdoba preserves in its historic centre eight centuries of Moorish presence, with its famous Mezquita with red and white arches, its flower-filled patios and the labyrinthine layout of its UNESCO-listed old town.

Seville — Seen from the air, Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, dominates the city with its Giralda tower, a former Almohad minaret that has become the symbol of the Andalusian capital.

The Alhucemas Islands — Facing the Moroccan city of Al Hoceima, just a few hundred metres from the coast, the Alhucemas Islands form one of Spain's most unusual and least-known territories : a tiny rocky archipelago under Spanish sovereignty since the 16th century, uninhabited except for a military garrison and closed to the public. The main islet lies just a few hundred metres from the shore, and the smallest island, Isla de Tierra, barely 50 metres from a Moroccan beach : an international border one could almost swim across. Seen from the air, these islands offer a raw and spectacular landscape, at the crossroads of two continents and two histories.
