The Island of the Gods
Bali is an island located between Java and Lombok. Its volcanic activity makes it an island with particularly fertile soil, which allows it to develop through agriculture. Although tourism is dominant, as elsewhere in Indonesia, agriculture remains the sector that employs the most labor, especially rice cultivation.
Agriculture in Bali also includes a small amount of fruits and vegetables, Arabica coffee and other varieties. Sea fishing is also an important resource. Bali is famous for the production of batik and clothing, wood and stone carvings and goldsmith crafts.
Volcanic activity has been intense for many years and most of the island's surface (with the exception of Bukit Mountain and the Prapat Agung peninsula) is covered in volcanic magma. Some of these sediments are over a million years old and still exist today. Most of the island is made up of more recent volcanic deposits, notably due to Agung's catastrophic eruption in 1963.
