The Indian military parade, held every January 26 in New Delhi for Republic Day, celebrates the adoption of the Indian Constitution and showcases the nation’s strength. On this day, the armed forces — army, navy, and air force — march in formation, accompanied by tanks, missiles, fighter jets, and cultural tableaux that illustrate unity in diversity.
For the 65th edition of the parade (January 26, 2014), the chief guest was Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The contingents and cultural displays were described as a “majestic demonstration of India’s cultural richness and military power,” held under cold weather and cloudy skies.
