Description
Brandon Castle is a former medieval stronghold erected on a Gallo-Roman site in Saône-et-Loire. A strategic sentinel, it defended the borders of the Duchy of Burgundy until the 16th century against the troops of the King of France. Its architecture preserves a enclosed courtyard, a 12th-century rampart walk and an imposing fortified gatehouse from the 13th century. Transformed into a residential dwelling in the 17th century, its grand main building testifies today to this remarkable transition between military architecture and classical comfort.
