Aerial footage shot on a Cineflex gyro-stabilized camera from a helicopter, flying over a vast open-air landfill near Santo Domingo, where Haitian waste pickers sort through the garbage in search of recyclable materials. The expanse of trash stretches as far as the eye can see, dotted with numerous figures bending or moving among the piles. The main subject, a man in a red cap with a backpack, appears to be pursued by a giant wave of garbage threatening to collapse over him with every step. A few makeshift corrugated-metal structures and patches of turned earth or ash punctuate the landscape, traces of fires or burned areas. The camera moves slowly in smooth, stabilized wide shots, revealing the impressive scale of the site and the density of human activity. The day is dusty but clear, bringing out the ochre and grey tones of the dump.
