Austfonna glacier covers the oriental part of Nordaustlandet, an island situated north-east of Svalbard, a Norvegian archipelago in the Arctic ocean. 8 492 km2 wide, it is the widest ice cap of Europe before the Vatnajökull in Iceland, it is the seventh in the world.
