Norilsk, the World's Most Polluted City

Description

Norilsk rises from the frozen wilderness of northern Siberia. Built around vast mineral resources originally exploited with Soviet Gulag labor, the city remains dominated by mining and metallurgy. Factories, mines, pipelines and industrial emissions contrast with the snow-covered tundra. Filmed in spring under lingering winter conditions, these rare images reveal the spectacular and austere environment of one of the Arctic’s most isolated and polluted cities.
