In the Auvergne, you can feel the power of the volcanoes all around you. They are the source of the Auvergne's impressive vitality, a natural heritage unique of its kind in France and Europe.
Some 80 volcanoes are huddled together at the entrance to the town of Clermont-Ferrand, where they form the Les Puys chain. Further on, the Monts Dore, Monts du Cantal and the Velay Volcanique offer a living, open-air geology exhibition.
